AUSTRALIAN GREENS ‘AG’ INTERNATIONAL coSECRETARY’s and AG Asia Pacific Greens Federation Councillor, Global Greens ‘GG’ REPORTs 2025

This International coSecretary’s Report is drafted late to Australian Greens National Conference for some of the reasons explained to 2025 National Conference Organising Committee this week 202511.

TRIGGER WARNING:
Readers are Warned that this report contains graphic information of physical abuse\violence\deaths and links to information reporting such incidents: Some Help agencies for any triggered reactions\counselling issues: ‘13YARN';

JUSTICE:
Deaths in custody:
Global Incarceration Ranking: ‘Australia's Indigenous people have been noted as having a higher imprisonment rate (per 100,000 of their respective populations) than Indigenous populations in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand, making them one of the most incarcerated peoples on the planet. This high incarceration rate directly contributes to the high number of deaths in
custody.’ [AI Australian Institute of Criminology]

International United Nations Indigenous Peoples Day 9 August 2025 was marked by the AG APGF Councillor facilitating the launch of the Indigenous Network Global Greens ‘INGG’ where We had a representative from the Greens for Palestine attend and speak on the general context of Palestine\Gaza at that Time before the #CEASEFIRE and on the Palestinians as Indigenous Peoples.

Global Issues Working Group ‘GIG’, International Development Committee, Asia Pacific Greens Federation ‘APGF’, GG:
The International coSecretaries have convened the Australian Greens Global Issues Working Group (GIG) after some early 2025 IT Zoomlink issues, and have been working with GIG to achieve participation by GIG membership which is ongoingly enthusiastic and highly contributive to the participatory discussions and different work aspects of GIG. Being an active member of the Australian Greens International Development Committee ‘IDC’ generally and specifically for the Papua New Guinea Greens Party 2024-2025 IDC Project Team. Being part of the Project Team has allowed the International Secretary role to be part of the combined IDC-Team GIG AG
Asia Pacific Greens Federation ‘APGF’ Support to the persistent PNG Greens Party who have very recently had 2 (and maybe more to come) PNGGreens elected in the PNG Local Government elections October/November 2025. IDC is proposing to meet Tuesday November 18 to finalise the Project review and celebrate the PNGGreens Party maintaining Party registration in the midst of the PNG Local Government elections, as well as the success of the PNG Gender Equity Trainings and the expansion of the PNGGreens in NW PNG. A Special Mention was made in international Greens meetings of the bravery of Former Senator Rice whose training visit to PNG, in what can someTimes be fragile volatile political situations, was appreciated. Against the background of AG, Community Support and AG Parliamentarian actions 2025 has seen more tragic Human Rights abuses\deaths in Palestine\Gaza\West Bank in the context of the conflict with Israeli Defence Forces. A recent example has been the arrest of Israeli military’s chief lawyer, Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi. 'The chief lawyer has been arrested after admitting she authorized leaking a video of reservist soldiers abusing a
Palestinian prisoner. These soldiers are then reported as lying to the (Israeli) Supreme Court about that incident. Tomer-Yerushalmi said she authorized the leak to protect her colleagues accused by the far right of aiding Israel's enemies, but the government is using the leak to shift attention away from the alleged abuse. The issue is dominating Israeli public discourse, with those in opposition and human rights organizations saying the issue isn'tt who gave the tape to the TV station but Israel's treatment of detainees.’:

Global Issues Group ‘GIG’ and APGF Middle East Peace Forums have noted and Appreciated the Work of Senator David Shoebridge and His Office Team’s Work on tracking international arms and components dealing. The GG (anti) arms trade subteam has been a channel by which Hannah Thomas, who received violent police brutality in NSW during an action targeting an arms component manufacturer, was further ‘ Well Wished’ by the Greens of England and Wales.

PEACE:
The past year has been a rewarding experience especially working with Dominic, as a Greens Councillor and as one of the rare councillors who is on my tribal land and I carry my custodian commitments with the Greens commitment for the environment and the community. As the co-convenor of the Australian Nuclear free Alliance (ANFA) I have been able to unite the International Indigenous Greens with the ANFA and we are working together for the COP31 hosting rights especially for the International Indigenous people in the Pacific region who are effected by high tides, nuclear waste and ghost rubbish to name a few.

ECO-SUSTAINABILITY:
‘As the world prepares for COP30 (10–21 November 2025, Belém, Brazil), the Global Greens, a network of Green parties and movements from over 90 countries,  and the Global Young Greens, a youth network for young greens and activists worldwide — call on governments, institutions, and corporations to meet this historic moment with courage, justice, and urgency. The climate crisis
is accelerating, and the political response must do the same, fully aligned with the latest IPCC recommendations and findings.’[Global Greens and Global Young Greens Pre-COP30 Demands Statement drafted]. An amendment has been supported by the Global Greens to include in the Pre-COP30 Demands Statement: “Nature-based climate solutions must protect biodiversity and uphold Indigenous land rights.” Through the Global Greens Working Groups and international Networks GG has focused on issues set out at: https://globalgreens.org/about/news ].

GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY:
Being the Australian contact point for Green Parties and Federations worldwide, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific, the International coSecretary role was able to support a Greens Political Observers delegation by working with IDC CoOrdinator and Greens Member Bodies to Help Host the General Secretary of the PNGGreens, together with a Member (and former US Presidential Candidate) of the USA Greens during observations of the Greens 2025 Election Campaign. With the Help of the First Nations Support Officer of NSW Greens and the NSW Member Body State Director and His Green Team, a visit to the NSW Greens Office for the PNG USA Observers resulted in further NSW Greens resources of Greens Tshirts badges and other Greens merchandise being sent to the PNGGreens for the PNGGreens Local Government Elections Candidates. Senator David Shoebridge has been enthusiastically Thanked and commended for His 2025 visit to the Greens of Lebanon who could not stop praising Senator Shoebridge for His visit to speak with and encourage the Greens for Lebanon.
