Adani motion a test for Labor and the Government

The Government must revoke Adani’s environmental approval to in light of serious allegations of environmental breaches, said Australian Greens Senator for Queensland, Larissa Waters

“Adani has shown complete disregard for environmental rules, here and overseas. How many more chances is the federal government going to give them?” said Senator Waters, Australian Greens spokesperson on mining and resources.

“Adani is already being prosecuted for polluting the Caley Valley wetlands, and overnight we learned that the Queensland Government is investigating them for allegedly illegally drilling six dewatering bores and prematurely clearing vegetation on the site of the Carmichael coal mine,” Sen. Waters said.

“We know the Government are spruikers for coal despite all the climate science, but will Labor finally get off the fence on Adani and stand with the community, the Traditional Owners and our Reef and oppose building the world’s largest new coal mine?

“I’ll be moving a motion today calling for Adani's license to be revoked. So Labor has a chance to once and for all show the community whether they stand with the big corporate polluters or with the Australian people.

“The new Environment Minister should make her mark by actually enforcing environmental laws."
