Albanese government must intervene to air drop food into Gaza

Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens and spokesperson for International Aid & Global Justice, Senator Mehreen Faruqi, is demanding an immediate intervention from the Albanese government to coordinate an aid drop into Gaza.

Reports out of Gaza today show an unprecedented number of starving people of all ages attending emergency rooms in a state of extreme exhaustion and at risk of imminent death. Even for those with money, there is no food available to purchase.

This is not a famine - it is deliberate starvation of a population and a direct result of Israel’s aid blockade and genocide.

Lines attributable to Senator Mehreen Faruqi, Deputy Leader of the Greens and spokesperson for International Aid & Global Justice:

“Israel’s starvation of Gaza has reached unprecedented levels as reports coming out of Gaza in the last few hours show a devastating and catastrophic lack of food.

“The Albanese Labor government must intervene and coordinate direct aid drops of food into Gaza immediately. Every red line has been crossed many times over, yet no action has been taken by our Government.

“Unchecked impunity and support for Israel’s genocide has led to the massacre of thousands of Palestinians and the mass starvation of so many more. Every day that passes, more people are killed by Israel - if not from bombs and bullets, from the deliberate starvation underway.

“Surely even a complicit gutless government like ours which hasn’t sanctioned Israel or stopped the two-way arms trade can find it in their hearts to do everything they can to provide food to people who are exhausted, hungry, and dying of starvation.

“Watching and reading the pleas and stories of hunger and starvation from the people in Gaza is enough to draw water from a stone. The question is: Will Albanese and Wong be moved to act?”
