“What an incredible community win. After almost a decade of campaigning by the local community and the Greens, Walker Corporation has withdrawn its application for the Toondah Harbour development.

“The tireless campaigners from the Quandamooka Community, Redlands 2030, Birdlife, the ACF, the Koala Action Group and all the members of the Toondah Alliance must be congratulated. Hundreds of thousands of people signed petitions, wrote to the Minister, and made submissions to the Environmental Impact Statement.

“While the community's hard work has paid off - the fight to save Toondah is not yet over. The Queensland State Labor government had already approved Walker Corp's proposal, leaving Toondah Harbour open to other development applications in the future.

“The Greens will keep the pressure on Queensland Labor to confirm they won’t support any future private development on the site.

“We want to see the State Government step in to fix the ferry terminal and protect the wetlands instead - and ensure there’s no more secret sweetheart deals for private developers.”
