Gambling is unfinished business, Greens to push Murphy's ban on Wednesday

2025-01-31

Both Peter Dutton and the Federal Government have so far failed to tackle the serious harms of gambling advertising, but the Greens say they have not given up on securing reforms this fortnight as parliament returns. The Greens Ban Gambling Ads Bill will be debated Wednesday morning.

Senator Sarah Hanson-Young is Greens spokesperson for Communications, Senator for South Australia:

Gambling ads are the unfinished business of this parliament. They can and should be tackled this fortnight before the election - and the Greens will not give up.

“The Greens Ban Gambling Ads Bill will be before the Senate for debate and vote this Wednesday, delivering on the Peta Murphy recommendations to ban gambling advertising, including online and TV.

“Australians lose more to gambling per person than any other country. We urge the Albanese Government to get this done before the election.”
