“While the Greens support digital innovation and regulation, we’re never going to support throwing creative artists under the bus,” Greens arts spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
“Our message to creative artists is unequivocal. We’re here to ensure the law empowers you, enables you, enhances you and emboldens you. The law should never impoverish you. Laws that hurt you hurt us, and we’ll fight them with you, shoulder to shoulder, day in, day out,” she said.
“The Government is undergoing a process of updating Australia’s online regulatory regime. Everyone has a stake in this. And while we want to make sure that we’re providing the framework that allows new platforms for creative content to flourish, we will always ensure that we represent, first and foremost, the interests of artists and we champion, support and amplify their contribution to Australia’s rich cultural life,” Greens digital rights spokesperson Senator Jordon Steele-John said.
“I firmly believe that the creative arts sector is essential for a well-functioning and healthy democracy. Our creative industries are a vital part of innovation and our rapidly changing workforce,” he said.
“In the coming days and weeks we will be reaching out to artists, innovators, authors and advocates to more fully explore opportunities for the Australian Greens to support the needs of the content creators and the platforms that connect creative content with audiences,” Senator Hanson-Young said.
