Today, Australian Greens Peace and Disarmament spokesperson Senator Jordon Steele-John has expressed his frustrations that the United States Marine Rotational Force has gone ahead, bringing COVID-19 back to the Territory after a lengthy period with no cases.

“The community pleaded with NT Labor to stop the US Marine Rotation, knowing that it would put the health of Territorians at risk and now it has.” Senator Steele-John has said. “There was absolutely no reason to put communities or the health system in the Top End at risk.

“The Northern Territory community has worked extremely hard and sacrificed a lot to combat the spread of COVID-19. The US Marine Rotation has completely undermined these efforts.

“This is exactly what happens when decisions are made in the interest of pleasing Trump, rather than the safety of people in communities across the Northern Territory.”

Greens Candidate for Nightcliff, Billee McGinley today reiterated that the Territory’s major parties are taking the lead from their federal counterparts, rather than working for our Territory Communities. ”It was a terrible decision to make special concessions for this rotation.

“The Chief Minister welcomed this rotation with claims it was necessary for our economic recovery, even with the risks potentially costing us so much more.  The rotation needs to be cancelled and everyone sent home.
