The Senate has supported a motion noting the absence of any government response to the unanimous findings of the senate inquiry into the Future of Australia’s video game development industry, and ordered a copy of the response be tabled by 3pm tomorrow.
Australian Greens I.T. spokesperson Senator Jordon Steele-John said it was time for the government to stop squandering the extraordinary opportunity and get involved In Australia’s video game industry.
“It has been 585 days since the recommendations of the senate inquiry into the future of Australia’s video game development industry were handed down and we still have not had any response from this government,” Senator Steele-John said.
“Those recommendations were unanimous in their resolution that government should invest in the local industry, in the form of grants, low-interest loans and tax offsets to foster growth, and to ensure that Australian talent stays in Australia.
“It's time government recognised the value of the Australian video games industry and gave it the same level of support as other creative industries enjoy.
“I am proud to be able to continue the work of Scott Ludlam in supporting, and advocating on behalf of, the video game industry here in Australia.”
