Greens leader Richard Di Natale today expressed deep concern at reports that the vessel Al Awda – part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla coalition’s boat – was detained by the Israeli Navy in international waters late last night.
“I understand that the vessel and the crew, including Australian journalist Chris Graham, were intercepted in international waters, and that they have been towed to the Israeli port of Ashdod," Di Natale said.
“I call on the Foreign Minister to urgently establish the safety and wellbeing of the crew, particularly the Australian citizen, and urge that they be allowed to go on their way. These people are bringing humanitarian assistance and attention to the appalling situation in Gaza.
"The illegal and inhumane blockade of Gaza must end immediately, and I commend those who are part of the peaceful campaign to end it”.
