Nick McKim has been confirmed as the lead Senate candidate for the Tasmanian Greens in the upcoming federal election.
“I’m so grateful to have been chosen by our members to lead our Senate ticket,” Senator McKim said.
“My political awakening was getting arrested at Farmhouse Creek defending Tasmania’s ancient forests in 1986. It’s beyond belief that they are still being destroyed and I’ll keep fighting to defend them with everything I’ve got.”
“This election is critical for Tasmania and Australia. We are facing so many challenges, from cost of living, a housing crisis, through to climate breakdown and ecological collapse.”
“We'll use this campaign to fight for nature and forests, for climate action, for renters and mortgage holders, for integrity in politics and to end corporate price gouging.”
“We’ll fight for big corporations to pay their fair share of tax so we can put dental and mental health into medicare, make healthcare more affordable and wipe student debt.”
“I’m excited about our opportunity at this election. People know that if they want change, they have to vote for it.”
“It’s getting harder and harder to tell Labor and the Liberals apart, and we offer a genuine alternative.”
“We can absolutely win two Senate seats in Tasmania this time around. It’s a big ask, but we can do it. It’s our chance to make history.”
“It would be a seismic shift in Australian politics.”
“Momentum is with us. We’ve grown our vote in Tasmania in the last two federal elections and the last two state elections.”
“Seven months ago, we’d never won two seats in the same electorate. Then we won two seats in Clark.”
“Five months ago, we’d never won a seat in a single member electorate in Tasmania. Then we made history by winning Hobart.”
“Everything's impossible until it’s not.”
“If less than 6% of Tasmanians switch their vote from Labor to Greens at this election then we will win two of the six seats available.”
“In 2001 we got a bigger swing than that. We’ve done it before and we can do it again.”
“The times are with us, and the Greens are ready to deliver the transformative change people are crying out for.”
