Is our new Deputy Prime Minister a climate change denier?

Greens spokesperson for climate change and energy Adam Bandt MP today questioned the new Deputy Prime Minister, Michael McCormack, about his position on climate change.

“It appears that the second most powerful man in the country doesn’t believe in climate change,” said Mr Bandt.

“In 2012, the now Deputy Prime Minister called it ‘so-called climate change’ in Parliament. In his first speech, he stated that just because there is less rain: ‘It does not mean we all need to listen to a government grant-seeking academic sprouting doom and gloom about climate changing irreversibly.’

“When the second most powerful man in the country doesn’t appear to believe in the science of climate change, Australia is in trouble.

“We need to see the Coalition agreement laid on the table, so that the whole of Australia can see what deals have been done with someone who doesn’t even seem to believe that climate change is real.”
