QLD Labor hoodwinking Cairns community over secretive $1bn waterfront development proposal

QLD Labor are hosting their farcical community consultation pop-up shop over the holiday break as a deliberate plot to strip the people of Cairns their right to have a say in the future of their own community.

The local community has a right to a fair and transparent consultation on the future of their city, yet as her first act as Minister for Tourism, Kate Jones will be pulling the wool over their eyes.

Kate Jones has implemented the worst possible process during the worst possible time of year: a pop-up shop in the middle of a shopping centre during the Christmas holiday break.

The development is set to be built in a location of over 150,000 people, how are they meant to be appropriately consulted in the space of two weeks via this pop-up nonsense?

The fact that the Cairns City Port precinct has already been nominated as the preferred site shows what a stitch up and sham this whole process is.

Nothing has changed with QLD Labor. They might have a new ministry, but their policy of rejecting local community in favour of the big corporations is the same.

We don’t even know who the developers set to inherit this billion dollar project are before they run rampant across the city of Cairns.

It’s clear that QLD Labor’s only plans for the state are more coal mines, more casinos, and more dodgy development deals.
