Stop the US extradition of Wikileaks publisher Julian Assange

2020-02-19

This meeting of the Northern Territory Greens held on Sunday, 19th January 2020 condemns the continuing persecution of Wikileaks’ publisher Julian Assange by the US, British and Australian governments.

This collusion against Assange is a fundamental attack on all democratic rights, and an attempt to intimidate and silence all those who seek to expose the truth.

We demand that the Australian government immediately utilises all available diplomatic and legal means to impel the British government to cease supporting the US attempt to extradite Assange on false charges of espionage. We demand his immediate release from custody.

Assange must be freed without any conditions. He must be able to return to Australia, or to a country of his choice, so he can seek urgently required medical treatment. Assange must be guaranteed immunity from any US extradition application.

The dauntless whistleblower Chelsea Manning who leaked the important documents published by Wikileaks in 2010 has been re-imprisoned by the American government. Manning is being fined $1,000 per day for refusing to testify before a grand jury against Assange.

This meeting extends its full support to the release of Chelsea Manning.
