The Greens are fighting for
renters, first home buyers & stressed mortgage holders

In a wealthy country like ours, everyone should have a secure home.

But if you’re struggling or worried that millions of people can’t buy a home, you’re not alone.

This election is our once in a generation opportunity to fix the housing crisis.

There will be a minority government this election – and the Greens are within reach of winning new seats across the country.

We’ve secured billions in additional funding for housing in parliament. Now we’re focused on making sure everyone has a safe, secure, and affordable home.

More Greens will keep Dutton's Liberals out and put renters & first-home buyers ahead of wealthy property investors.

Nothing changes, unless your vote does. For strong housing action, Vote 1 Greens.

WE CAN'T KEEP VOTING FOR THE SAME TWO PARTIES AND EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT.

Labor and the Liberals are funded by big banks and wealthy property investors profiting from the housing crisis. They’re not serious about real change.

But 1-in-3 people are renters.

Imagine what we could achieve if 5 million of us came together to vote for change?

THE GREENS AREN’T FUNDED BY THE BIG BANKS.

We fight for renters, first-home buyers, and everyday people like you.

We can’t be bought and we will not sell out.

Your vote is powerful. The Greens now have over 100 elected representatives and we’re in reach of winning new seats right across the country.

We’ll keep Dutton's Liberals out and get Labor to act.

The Greens plan to tackle the housing crisis

The Greens will tackle the crisis at scale to make housing affordable.

Our plan to give renters, first-home buyers and stressed mortgage holders a chance will:

  1. Cap rent increases: End unlimited rent increases with a rent freeze and long-term rent caps.
  2. Bring down mortgages: Regulate the banks to deliver fairer, lower mortgages.
  3. Phase out tax handouts: Scrap the tax handouts to wealthy property investors with more than two properties, including negative gearing (it’s stopping renters buying their first home).
  4. Build public & affordable homes:  A government-owned developer to build good quality homes sold and rented at a price you can afford.
  5. Renters Protection Authority: Establish a National Renters Protection Authority to enforce renters’ rights.

We’ll pay for it by ending tax breaks for property investors and making big corporations pay their fair share.

Greens Pressure Works

Newspaper headline - "Labor hands Greens $500m housing win to pass government agenda" - Sydney Morning Herald, 28 Nov 2024

We’ve already made huge progress. In just the last term of parliament, the Greens:

  • Passed all government housing bills, negotiating billions in additional funding.
  • Secured $800 million for energy upgrades to public and social homes, saving people $1,800 a year on energy bills.
  • Secured the single largest investment in public and community housing in over a decade (and 6 times what the government had planned to fund!).
  • Put renters rights on the National Cabinet agenda, finally giving renters and first home buyers a voice on the national stage.

But we’ve still got a long way to go. Imagine what we can do next with more Greens in parliament.

IF YOU WANT CHANGE, THE FIRST STEP IS TO VOTE FOR IT.

Both major parties are giving millions in tax handouts to wealthy property investors. Renters and first home buyers don’t stand a chance.

The system is not just broken, it's being rigged against you.
