Stop Labor's cuts to public education
The Victorian Greens have successfully secured an Inquiry into Public School Funding - and now we need your help.
This inquiry is an important opportunity for you to tell the government to reverse their $2.4 billion funding cut to Victoria’s public schools.
Your voice is powerful. If you think all Victorian students deserve a world-class, properly funded education delivered by teachers who are paid properly for their work - please put in a submission.
What will the inquiry do?
This inquiry will be led by the Victorian Parliament Legislative Council’s Legal and Social Issues Committee, and will focus on funding for public schools in Victoria compared to other states and territories, and the impact of Labor’s funding cuts on Commonwealth funding, the teaching and school workforce, educational outcomes for students, and the ability of schools to purchase educational resources and equipment, as well as maintain their school buildings. You can read the full terms of reference here.
The inquiry is accepting public submissions until 19 Dec 2025, followed by hearings.
How can I help?
You don’t need to be an expert. Making a submission to the inquiry is a powerful way for you to tell the Victorian Labor Government to reverse their disastrous funding cuts and fully fund public schools.
The idea of making a submission may sound daunting, but it’s a simple process. You can submit in text, audio or video format, on behalf of an organisation, or as an individual.
For some inquiries like this one, it’s especially powerful for the committee to hear from groups like school councils, student or parent groups, and unions. So if you’re connected with one of those organisations, we encourage you to get together and write a joint submission rather than everyone submitting theirs individually.
What should I say in my submission?
Your submission doesn’t need to be long or detailed. Just think about your own personal experience, and what you, your family and your community members care about.
You might consider questions like:
- Why is it important to you, your family and your community that Victoria’s public schools should be fully funded?
- How will the teachers and school staff in your life be affected by Labor’s funding cuts?
- What would you like the state government to know about the state of your local public school’s facilities, equipment and educational resources?
How do I submit?
- You can make your submission here. You can type directly into the submission form, and/or upload up to 3 attachments (images, documents, audio or video files).
- The submission form will also ask you to:
- Fill in your personal details
- Choose whether you’d like your submission to be published with your name, published without your name, or not published at all
- Indicate whether you are interested in appearing before the committee hearings to talk about your submission (Note: this is absolutely not required, but if you can do it, it’s really important! Send us an email on tim.read@parliament.vic.gov.au and we’ll help you get ready.)
