Jess Lane

Candidate for Stafford

Hi! My name is Jess and I’m your Greens candidate for Stafford.

I’m a bonafide northsider — born in Redcliffe, raised in Boondall, and now living in Stafford Heights with my husband David, our two young daughters and our dog, Dee-Dee.

My background is in education, and for 17 years I have taught thousands of young people from primary school through to tertiary level. I was proud to run for Stafford in 2024, and I’m standing again because I believe we need more teachers elected to parliament to help build a world-class public education system right here in Queensland.

The majority of children in Stafford attend public schools, yet those schools remain underfunded and families are too often asked to make up the difference. During a cost-of-living crisis, that is simply unacceptable.

While local schools fundraise for basics like air-conditioning, big gas companies pay just 8% in royalties — less than the GST on your coffee. If big corporations paid their fair share, we could fully fund schools, build public housing, expand hospitals and strengthen essential services.

Brisbane is too expensive, particularly here on the northside. And things will only get worse with the LNP and Labor.

Vote Greens to end the rip offs and make Brisbane affordable.

We’ll freeze rents for 2 years and take $500 off your power bill by scrapping privatisation. We’ll also fight for better hospitals, public transport and state schools: funded by taxing big gas corporations

The Greens don’t take corporate donations, which means we answer to people — not wealthy donors.

I was drawn to teaching because I believe in making communities stronger, fairer and more connected.

This election, don’t give your vote to another career politician.

Give it to a teacher. This teacher.
