I'm Steph Hodgins-May, your new Greens Senator for Victoria.
Steph is a dedicated climate, environment and social justice campaigner, strategist and policy maker.
Steph’s background is in planning and environmental law, she worked as an adviser to the United Nations, successfully strengthening Australia’s position on the impact of the climate crisis on food security, negotiating stronger reef protections and increasing Australia’s humanitarian intake of refugees and asylum seekers.
Most recently, Steph has worked as the head of Pacific Strategic Climate Litigation for a major international not for profit, achieving landmark legal victories in deep allyship with Indigenous frontline Pasifika communities.
Steph is an experienced policy maker and adviser, including to former Greens Leader Senator Richard Di Natale. Her work in parliament helped to deliver Australia’s first medicinal cannabis legislation and brought dying with dignity to the forefront of the national debate, paving the way for voluntary euthanasia laws in Victoria.
Steph has spent over a decade building the Green’s capacity in inner city and regional electorates as a candidate, mentor and through office bearer roles.
Steph founded a local organic food business, informed by her experience of growing up on and managing the family farm in Central Victoria.
As the Greens Senator for Victoria, Steph holds the Early Childhood Education and Care portfolio and Science, Industry and Innovation portfolio.
Steph lives with her partner and two young kids in St Kilda.
