First Nations businesses have long been excluded from the benefits of international trade, with government support limited to narrow opportunities like art and fashion.
The Greens are working to ensure First Nations businesses are empowered to trade globally in a fair, sustainable, and culturally appropriate way.
The Greens' plan:
- Establish a dedicated team within the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) to:
- Help First Nations businesses navigate trade agreements and export opportunities.
- Support export readiness by linking First Nations businesses to programs like Supply Nation’s Export Nation, providing mentoring and development resources.
- Set investment targets and offer incentives for collaboration with First Nations businesses in export markets.
- Develop intellectual property protections for First Nations products such as bushfoods, botanicals, medicines, art, and cultural artefacts.
- Conduct research to build data and evidence for successful First Nations business export and import opportunities.
