Elizabeth McAulay

Candidate for Ferny Grove

I'm Elizabeth, and I’m excited to be your Greens candidate for Ferny Grove.

As a family and domestic violence lawyer who has worked with some of the most vulnerable members of our community, I have seen the way our political system is failing.

For too long we have had governments that offer band aid solutions to problems, which do nothing to address the systemic issues plaguing our society. We are in the midst of a cost of living crisis, a housing crisis, and a climate crisis.

If nothing changes, things get worse. Rental inflation is reaching heights not seen since the global financial crisis, and it is expected to stay this way until 2026. We need an urgent rent freeze and ongoing cap on rent increases, and to build good quality public homes, so every Queenslander has a secure place to call home.

We need urgent action on skyrocketing costs of living. We’ll cut the cost of groceries by breaking up the Coles/Woolworths duopoly, introduce free public transport with more reliable services, and take back control of our economy with public ownership of essential services.

We’ll make big corporations pay their fair share and fund a better life for all Queenslanders by building 100,000 new homes and making our schools and healthcare genuinely free.

For a sustainable future for Queenslanders, we need to take action on the climate crisis.

Labor and the LNP are in lock step on approving new coal and gas projects, and allowing mining corporations to export the wealth that comes from our resources without paying tax. Instead, we should ban new coal and gas projects with a just transition for workers, and use our massive resource wealth for the benefit of all Queenslanders, like investing in our renewable energy future, fully funded education and healthcare.

LNP and Labor continue to take corporate donations and have repeatedly shown that they will act in the interest of their donors over the interests of Queenslanders. The Greens refuse corporate donations, so we’ll fight for you.

I’m looking forward to meeting as many people in Ferny Grove as I can over the next few months, so please get in touch to let me know how we can work together for a future for all of us.
