Paul Toner

Candidate for Lockyer

Hi, I’m Paul and I’m thrilled to be your candidate for Lockyer.

Growing up, my parents instilled in me the belief that a community was built around trust, caring, and lending a helping hand. They taught me that it was important to leave behind something better than you were given and always try to be a good friend and neighbour. It’s these values that I bring to my campaign.

We face disruptive times. We need to ensure that we act now to save the environment we live in, to create a society that cares for everyone and to have an economy that allows us all to thrive and not just struggle to survive.

The challenges of climate change, cost of living, homelessness, and health need to be addressed by real, well-planned policies, not just slogans and distractions.

I’ve lived in Ipswich and the Lockyer region since 2007 and witnessed how changes to our climate and economy have affected us. As a rural area, Lockyer is on the frontline of climate change

Our plan for Queensland would enable the people of Lockyer to cope with the disruptions of a changing climate and grow a stronger, more sustainable economy, a fairer, caring community, and a liveable environment.

Unlike the major parties, the Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, so I will represent you, not vested interests.

The Greens will tax big corporations fairly and use that money to build 100,000 homes, make our schools and healthcare genuinely free, stop price gouging and lower power bills by transitioning to 100% publicly owned renewable energy. We will increase public transport across our state and make it free. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases

The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

A protected and sustainable environment would enable Lockyer to be both a food bowl and a tourist destination for Queensland and beyond. A fairer and caring society would make our region a safe and thriving place for young people to grow and mature while also meeting the needs of our older community members.

Together, we can make it happen. Will you join me?
