Paul Toner

Candidate for Blair

Hi, I’m Paul and I’m honoured to be your candidate for Blair.

I’ve lived in Ipswich for the last 18 years, and witnessed how changes to our climate and economy have affected us. I’m passionate about ensuring the people of Blair will be able to cope with the disruptions of a changing climate and grow a stronger, more sustainable economy, a fairer, caring community, and a liveable environment.

I volunteer for an organisation that fights for a fairer world, funding education, research and policy. In my work, I've been involved in campaigns around climate, First Nations rights and health, women's rights and health, highlighting and ending genocides and healthcare as a right.

Growing up, my parents instilled in me the belief that a community was built around trust, caring, and lending a helping hand. They taught me that it was important to leave behind something better than you were given and always try to be a good friend and neighbour. It’s these values that I bring to represent the people of Blair.

This election will focus on the cost of living but we cannot ignore that we need to act now to save the environment we live in. We need to create a society that cares for everyone and to have an economy that allows us all to thrive and not just struggle to survive.

The Greens have real, well-planned policies, not just slogans and distractions, to address the challenges of climate change, cost of living, access to affordable housing, health, education and more

Unlike the major parties, the Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, so I will represent you, not vested interests.

We will tax big corporations fairly and use that money to build hundreds of thousands of good quality homes through a public property developer. We’ll regulate mortgages to ensure that banks don’t grow profits while Australian home owners struggle to pay their mortgages and we also freeze rents and cap increases for those renting.

We will fully fund Medicare, including dental and mental health. Public schools will be fully funded and we will help parents with the extra cost of education. Australians should not not have to face a choice between health, education, housing or food.

The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

A protected and sustainable environment would enable rural areas of Blair to be both a food bowl and a tourist destination for Queensland and beyond. A fairer and caring society would make our region a safe and thriving place for young people to grow and mature while also meeting the needs of our older community members.

Together, we can make it happen. Will you join me?
