Turning Perth Green

Our huge and committed Perth campaign team has been working for months to persuade electors to vote for The Greens policies on the important issues of housing, climate, healthcare and local issues. They’ve had thousands of doorstep conversations and also held a range of other campaign events.

Local Campaign Opportunities

Labor has failed to make any significant infrastructure or arts investment in Fremantle. This creates an opportunity for The Greens to localise their Fremantle campaign, for example on the housing crisis where we should highlight the many state government parcels of land in Fremantle that are boarded up or empty

Housing Inequality

While an increasing number of households are in financial stress due to lack of affordable housing, it’s never been a better time to be a property investor. The housing crisis is due to inequality rather than a lack of supply of affordable homes. Although Greens policies aren’t framed as reducing inequality, they would achieve that aim if implemented.

Cop29 and Australia both lack Climate Urgency

At COP 29 the power of the fossil fuel industry blocked any meaningful progress on addressing the increasingly urgent need for rapid cuts in emissions. Australia presented itself as a progressive country that’s taking strong climate action but in reality it’s more committed to expanding fossil fuel projects.

Emissions Watchdog or Enabler?

The Safeguard Mechanism provides little more than a fig leaf of respectability to Australia’s efforts to tackle global warming

Thanks Roger!

Roger Cook seemed prepared to risk outrage to go out on a limb for the gas industry by killing the Nature Positive bill, but that action is merely one in a long line of preferential treatment of the gas industry
