Arts

The arts are central to our shared identity, bringing people together and telling the stories that define us. Yet too many artists face insecure work and underfunding, making it difficult to create the art that enriches our lives.

While Labor’s policies lack ambition and funding, the Liberal-National Party has a record of neglect. The Greens are working to rebuild and grow the creative industries, ensuring fair pay, accessibility, and diversity.

With bold investments like a living wage for artists and funding for creative spaces, the Greens are driving meaningful change. We’re committed to ensuring Australian stories thrive on our screens, stages, and in our communities.

Creative Australia

The arts, entertainment, and creative industries are at the heart of who we are as a nation, but they’ve been hit hard in recent years. Still recovering from the impacts of COVID-19, they now face new challenges from the climate crisis and rising cost of living, leaving many struggling to survive.

Despite the Albanese Government’s Revive arts and culture policy setting an ambitious vision, it lacks the funding needed to deliver on its promises.

Supporting our stories, music, and creative work is vital to shaping our national identity, reflecting our diversity, and creating secure, well-paid jobs.

The Greens are committed to ensuring the arts are fully funded so they can thrive and reach the communities that need them most.

The Greens’ plan:

  • Support the sustainability and future of the arts industry by investing $2 billion over a decade
  • Strengthen Australian storytelling on screens by legislating local content quotas that require streaming services to invest 20% of their Australian subscriber revenue into locally made and owned content, and ensure they are regulated like Australian broadcasters.
  • Invest in Australian stories with a $50 million per year Australian Stories Fund, administered by Screen Australia, to support the creation and distribution of local content.
Build our creative industries

Strong Australian arts industries are crucial to telling our stories and having a thriving cultural scene.

We must invest in their development to help our creative industries flourish and ensure they are accessible to all Australians.

The Greens' plan:

  • Expand and revitalise arts infrastructure with a $300 million Arts Capital Works Fund to build new performing arts venues and rebuild the arts ecosystem across Australia.
  • Grow Australia's video games industry by establishing a $100 million Games Investment and Enterprise Fund to support game development and innovation.
