There are thousands of people across Australia who are working, studying and raising families here, but are not yet citizens.
They are building - and rebuilding – lives in Australia. To them, citizenship is confirmation of their place in our wonderful society.
But Peter Dutton’s changes to citizenship rules will make it harder, if not impossible, for so many people to reach this goal.
The Immigration Minister wants to put roadblocks in people’s way, like patronising values tests, long waits and English standards that many people born here would struggle to reach.
But you can do something about it - these changes have not yet passed Parliament, and you can have your voice heard.
The Senate is currently holding an inquiry into the Turnbull Government’s proposed changes to citizenship, which was called for by Greens Senator Nick McKim.
